Synopsis

Following the death of Prince Albert in 1861, Queen Victoria retreats from public life and remains consumed by grief. Her household summons John Brown, a blunt Scottish servant from Balmoral, hoping he can restore her spirits. Brown's loyalty and forceful personality revive Victoria's confidence, but their unusually intimate friendship provokes scandal, political unease, and conflict within the royal family.
