Synopsis

Jack Frost is a devoted but career-focused musician who dies in a snowy car accident before making amends with his wife and young son. A year later, a magical harmonica brings him back as a snowman. With time running short before the warmth melts him, Jack tries to reconnect with his grieving family and help his son move forward.

• The snowman was created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. Thirty-nine different components were made to portray the various versions of Jack Frost seen in the film.

• George Clooney was originally attached to play Jack Frost, and the Creature Shop initially designed the snowman to resemble him. Sam Raimi was also connected to the project during that earlier stage.

• The film was reportedly developed under the title "Frosty the Snowman" and was initially conceived as a more direct adaptation of the familiar Christmas character.

• Musician Trevor Rabin composed the score and also appears as a guitarist in the fictional Jack Frost Band.

• Three of Frank Zappa's children - Dweezil, Ahmet, and Moon Unit Zappa - appear in the film.

• Principal photography took place in locations around Truckee, Donner Lake, Tahoe City, and Reno during the spring and early summer of 1998.

• Warner Bros. released the film in the United States on December 11, 1998. It earned about $34.6 million in North America against a reported production budget ranging from $40 million to $85 million.

• The film was released one year after the unrelated horror movie "Jack Frost," which also features a snowman as its central character.
