Synopsis

After her husband publicly reveals his infidelity on a television talk show, Birdee Pruitt returns to her small Texas hometown with her young daughter. Living with her mother, she faces the embarrassment of becoming local gossip while trying to rebuild her life. An old friend offers companionship and romance, but Birdee must first overcome grief, anger, and fear of starting over.

• Hope Floats was the first film produced through Sandra Bullock's Fortis Films, the company she established with producer Lynda Obst.

• Filming took place in and around Smithville, Texas. Local locations included downtown businesses, a former high school building used as an elementary school, and Saints Peter and Paul Church in nearby Kovar.

• The movie's choreography was handled by Patsy Swayze, the mother of actor and dancer Patrick Swayze.

• The soundtrack was produced by Don Was and combined country, rock, and folk performers. Bob Dylan's "To Make You Feel My Love" appears in versions by both Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.
