Synopsis

Pregnant fast-food waitress Sally Jackson becomes the target of two brothers after she unknowingly overhears the circumstances surrounding their stepfather's death. As the more gentle brother, Dorian, takes a job at Sally's restaurant and falls for her, his violent sibling Angus pushes their family crisis toward murder. Sally must navigate romance, danger, and an increasingly bizarre connection to the baby's father.

• Vince Gilligan originally wrote the screenplay in 1989 for a screenwriting class at New York University, years before becoming widely known for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

• Principal photography took place from November 18, 1996, through January 25, 1997. Texas locations included Bastrop, Austin, Coupland, and El Paso, with additional filming in Los Angeles.

• The Burger-Matic restaurant was filmed at a real building in Bastrop, Texas. The structure has since been demolished, although nearby water towers remained.

• Rachel Portman composed the score. The soundtrack also includes Dean Martin's recording of "Memories Are Made of This."

• The film's military details contain a technical inconsistency: the characters are presented as Air National Guard pilots operating an AH-1 Cobra, despite that helicopter being associated with the Army and Marine Corps rather than the Air National Guard.

• Home Fries premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 16, 1998, before receiving its U.S. theatrical release on November 25, 1998.
