Synopsis

At fictional Columbus University, three freshmen confront the pressures of campus life from sharply different perspectives. A talented Black track athlete struggles with academic expectations, a sheltered student faces sexual violence and disillusionment, and an isolated young man is drawn toward white supremacist ideology. As racial conflict, prejudice, and violence intensify, their experiences expose the uneasy relationship between education, identity, and responsibility.

• Much of the campus material was filmed at UCLA, including Royce Hall, which served as part of the fictional Columbus University.

• Tupac Shakur was originally intended to play Malik Williams, but his incarceration prevented him from taking the role.

• John Singleton initially wanted Leonardo DiCaprio to play Remy. DiCaprio could not participate because of a scheduling conflict with The Quick and the Dead.

• Michael Rapaport was initially considered for Scott Moss before being cast as Remy.
