Synopsis

In 2127, scientist Paul Merchant battles Pinhead aboard a space station while recounting the cursed history of his family. Across three centuries, the Merchant bloodline attempts to destroy the puzzle box and prevent the Cenobites from entering the human world. The story moves between 18th-century France, 1996, and the distant future as Paul makes one final attempt to end the cycle.

Factoids & Trivia

• The film is the fourth entry in the Hellraiser series and serves as both a prequel and a sequel, linking the origins of the puzzle box with a future confrontation against Pinhead.

• The production was filmed in California, including studio work in Culver City. An abandoned factory was converted into the film's futuristic space-station setting.

• The initial cut reportedly ran approximately 110 minutes. After studio-mandated changes, the theatrical version was reduced to 85 minutes.

• Miramax requested that Pinhead appear earlier and play a more prominent role. The restructuring also added new material and a more optimistic ending.

• Additional scenes were filmed in April and May 1995 after the main production had been completed.
