Synopsis

At Rydell High, summer romance brings Danny and Sandy together, but their reunion is complicated by peer pressure, clashing identities, and the demands of teenage popularity. As school dances, rumors, rivalries, car culture, and graduation unfold, both must decide whether fitting in matters more than affection. Exuberant songs and stylized 1950s imagery transform adolescent insecurity into a glossy musical fantasy.

• The film adapts the 1971 stage musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, which began in Chicago before moving to New York.

• The movie substantially reshaped the stage material. Sandy was presented as an Australian newcomer, and the film softened some of the original show's rougher edges while emphasizing romance and pop spectacle.

• "You're the One That I Want" and "Hopelessly Devoted to You" were written specifically for the film by John Farrar. Neither song appeared in the original stage musical.
