Synopsis

Secret Service agent Sam Simms is assigned to protect Luke Davenport, the rebellious teenage son of the president. Luke resents the constant surveillance and tries to escape his protection, while Simms initially sees the assignment as an unwanted distraction from his career ambitions. Their uneasy relationship gradually develops into a genuine friendship, but a dangerous threat forces them to work together to protect the first family.

• Walt Disney Pictures released First Kid theatrically in the United States on August 30, 1996.

• Filming took place from November 14, 1995, through January 11, 1996. Richmond, Virginia, served as the main production base, with additional location work in Washington, D.C., and at Tysons Corner, Virginia.

• The mall sequences were filmed at the Tysons Galleria in Tysons Corner. The production also used St. Catherine's School in Richmond for school scenes.

• Because filming inside the real White House was not possible, special sets were built to represent the Executive Residence and the Oval Office. Washington exteriors included recognizable landmarks such as the Washington Monument, the National Mall, and the Treasury Building.

• Bob Snow, a retired assistant director of the Secret Service, served as the production's technical adviser.

• Bill Clinton appears as himself in a brief cameo while he was still president. The film also includes a cameo by Sonny Bono, who was serving in the U.S. House of Representatives at the time.

• The British Board of Film Classification initially required 1 minute and 31 seconds to be removed from the video version because the shopping-mall hostage sequence was considered too intense for a PG rating. The cuts were waived in 2002.

• First Kid opened in third place at the U.S. box office and ultimately earned approximately $26.5 million domestically.
