Synopsis

Alex Browning foresees a catastrophic plane explosion moments before his class trip begins. After he and several classmates are forced off the aircraft, the crash occurs exactly as predicted. Their apparent escape soon becomes a grim countdown, as a mysterious force begins reclaiming the survivors through a chain of elaborate, seemingly accidental deaths. Alex races to uncover the pattern and break it.

• The story began as a proposed episode of The X-Files, inspired in part by the 1984 horror film Sole Survivor. It was later developed into a feature film.

• Much of the news footage depicting the fictional plane disaster uses actual images connected to the July 1996 crash of TWA Flight 800.

• The exterior of Ms. Lewton's house was constructed in only five days. Local residents reportedly opposed the planned explosion because they liked the house.

• During the opening sequence, Devon Sawa was meant to appear asleep and actually fell asleep for approximately four hours.

• The brief shot of Alex's bedside clock, which changes from 1:00 a.m. to 180, reportedly took five days to perfect.

• Filming took place mainly in Victoria and elsewhere in British Columbia, with additional work in locations including Toronto, San Francisco, and Long Island.

• The death scenes were created with lifecasts of the performers, helping the production stage increasingly elaborate accidents while maintaining consistent physical details.
