Synopsis

After a deadly military experiment is stolen, Montana locals Arlo and Tim Mason become the unwilling guardians of a volatile chemical weapon that must remain below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Hunted by ruthless mercenaries and racing against a rapidly rising temperature, the mismatched pair must transport the refrigerated substance to safety while trying to stay alive.

Factoids & Trivia

• The film marked cinematographer Hugh Johnson's directorial debut and remains his only feature as director.

• Although the story is set in Montana, much of the movie was filmed in South Carolina and northeastern Utah. The Flaming Gorge Dam area provided several of the rugged action locations.

• Exterior diner scenes were filmed in Liberty, South Carolina. The building used as the diner was reportedly a wood shop, while the supposed $15-a-night hotel was actually a laundromat.

• Principal photography began on October 5, 1998, and production was completed on December 22 of that year.

• Cuba Gooding Jr. and Skeet Ulrich had previously appeared together in As Good as It Gets (1997). Gooding later reunited with Peter Firth in Pearl Harbor (2001).

• Released by Warner Bros. in September 1999, the film earned roughly $11.8 million worldwide, making it a substantial box-office disappointment compared with its reported production cost.
