Synopsis

Raised by a Japanese ninja clan after being found as an infant, Haru grows into a powerful but hopelessly clumsy trainee. When a woman asks for help locating her missing boyfriend, Haru travels to Beverly Hills and becomes entangled in a murder investigation involving counterfeit money. Along the way, his unconventional methods repeatedly test the patience of his fellow ninjas.

Factoids & Trivia

• The project originated as early as 1990, when Dana Carvey was attached to play Haru. He eventually withdrew from the film.

• Principal photography took place from February 21 through May 10, 1996. Locations included Beverly Hills, Pasadena, the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, and a Hindu temple in Calabasas.

• Chris Farley performed most of Haru's martial arts stunts himself. During one stunt, he dove into a wall and struck a structural stud that failed to break.

• Farley's brothers, Kevin and John, appear as police officers in a brief scene filmed at the Hindu Temple Society of Southern California.

• The movie opened in the United States on January 17, 1997, and debuted at No. 1 with more than $12 million for the weekend.

• Beverly Hills Ninja earned approximately $31.5 million domestically and about $6.4 million internationally.
