Synopsis

Mr. Freeze kidnaps Barbara Gordon after learning that her rare blood type may save his dying wife, Nora. Batman and Robin race to locate Barbara before a risky transplant can begin, while uncovering the tragic history behind Victor Fries' icy transformation. The rescue mission takes them from Gotham City to a remote Arctic base for a final confrontation.

Factoids & Trivia

• The film was developed as a direct-to-video companion to the 1997 live-action film Batman & Robin, which also featured Mr. Freeze and Batgirl. Its release was delayed from 1997 to March 17, 1998, following the poor reception of Batman & Robin.

• An early story proposal reportedly centered on Batman fighting Bane. The project was reworked around Mr. Freeze to better complement the live-action film.

• The story continues ideas established in the Batman: The Animated Series episodes "Heart of Ice" and "Deep Freeze," expanding the tragic relationship between Victor and Nora Fries.

• The production made notable use of computer-generated imagery for sequences involving the Batwing and Mr. Freeze's submarine, unusual elements within the traditionally hand-drawn style of the series.
