Synopsis

During a week at their grandparents' farm, siblings Cody and Abby, along with Abby's friend Marcella, discover a mysterious egg that has fallen from the sky. With Barney's help, the children learn that it contains a magical Dreammaker and must recover it after the egg is carried away through town before it hatches in the wrong place.

• Barney's Great Adventure was the character's first feature-length theatrical film and remains the only Barney movie released theatrically.

• The film premiered at Radio City Music Hall in New York on March 27, 1998, before opening widely in the United States and Canada on April 3.

• Although the story takes place in upstate New York, filming was carried out in Quebec, including Montreal, Rougemont, Saint-Hyacinthe, and the Morgan Arboretum at McGill University's Macdonald Campus.

• The production had a reported budget of approximately $15 million and earned about $12.2 million at the domestic box office.

• The film expanded Barney's television formula with outdoor locations, a town parade, circus performers, hot-air balloons, and special-effects work centered on the magical egg.

• Its September 1998 home-video release performed much better with its target audience. The title reached number one on Billboard's Top Kid Video chart and remained there for 27 weeks.

• The movie received two Golden Raspberry Award nominations: Worst New Star for Barney and Worst Original Song for "Barney, the Song."

• Promotional materials also used the longer title "Barney's Great Adventure: The Movie."
