Synopsis

Rey travels to the remote island of Ahch-To to find Luke Skywalker and persuade him to return to the fight. As Luke confronts the failures of the Jedi Order, Rey develops a mysterious bond with Kylo Ren. Meanwhile, the Resistance fleet struggles to survive a relentless First Order pursuit, forcing its leaders to make desperate choices about sacrifice, hope, and the future.

Factoids & Trivia

• Principal photography began at Pinewood Studios in London on February 15, 2016. The production also filmed in Ireland, including Skellig Michael and mainland locations used for Ahch-To, while Dubrovnik represented the casino city of Canto Bight.

• Cinematographer Steve Yedlin used a combination of anamorphic and spherical 35mm film, digital ARRI cameras, and selected 65mm IMAX photography. The mixed approach was designed around the practical needs of different sequences rather than a single capture format.

• The creatures of Ahch-To, including the porgs and the large milking creature, were created through a mixture of puppetry, animatronics, makeup, and visual effects. The production emphasized practical creature work as part of its effort to preserve the tactile feel associated with earlier Star Wars films.
