Jennifer Lynn Lopez (born July 24, 1969) is an American singer, actress, dancer, producer, and businesswoman whose career has moved between film, television, and popular music. Often known as J.Lo, she became one of the most visible Latina entertainers in the United States, combining mainstream pop appeal with Latin, R&B, hip-hop, and dance influences.

Born in the Bronx, New York, Lopez began performing at an early age and trained in dance and musical theater. Her first screen work included a small role in the 1986 film My Little Girl. She gained wider attention as one of the Fly Girls on the television sketch series In Living Color, where her dancing helped establish her as a performer with strong visual presence. Television appearances and supporting film roles followed, including parts in My Family, Money Train, Jack, and Blood and Wine.

Lopez's breakthrough came with Selena (1997), in which she portrayed Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla. The performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination and demonstrated that she could carry a dramatic film as well as a dance-driven entertainment career. She followed it with roles in Anaconda and Out of Sight (1998), the latter earning particular critical respect for her work opposite George Clooney. Out of Sight also helped establish Lopez as a major Hollywood leading actress.

In 1999, Lopez launched her recording career with On the 6. The album produced the number one single "If You Had My Love" and the internationally successful "Waiting for Tonight". Her second album, J.Lo (2001), reinforced her pop status with songs including "Love Don't Cost a Thing" and "I'm Real". Released in the same period as the film The Wedding Planner, it made Lopez the first woman to have a number one album and number one film in the United States during the same week. Further albums included This Is Me...Then (2002), Rebirth (2005), the Spanish-language Como Ama una Mujer (2007), Brave (2007), Love? (2011), and A.K.A. (2014). "Jenny from the Block", "Get Right", "On the Floor", and "Dance Again" became among her best-known singles.

Although romantic comedies such as Maid in Manhattan, Shall We Dance?, and Monster-in-Law defined much of her early-2000s film profile, Lopez continued to alternate commercial projects with more demanding roles. She produced and starred in El Cantante and later received strong notices for her performance as a dancer involved in a financial crime scheme in Hustlers (2019). The role brought Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations and marked an important critical revival.

Lopez also became a major television personality as a judge on American Idol, serving during several seasons between 2011 and 2016. Through her production company, Nuyorican Productions, she developed film and television projects including The Fosters. She headlined a Las Vegas concert residency and, with Shakira, co-headlined the Super Bowl LIV halftime show in 2020. Her performance career was later explored in the documentary Jennifer Lopez: Halftime (2022).

In the 2020s, Lopez expanded her work in streaming films, appearing in Marry Me, Shotgun Wedding, The Mother, and Atlas. She returned to music with the album and companion film This Is Me...Now (2024), a sequel in spirit to This Is Me...Then. Her later acting work included Unstoppable and the musical drama Kiss of the Spider Woman (2025). Across her career, Lopez has remained notable for treating singing, acting, dancing, and production as interconnected parts of a single star persona.
