Mack 10 is the stage name of Dedrick D'Mon Rolison (born August 9, 1971), an American rapper, songwriter, record producer, actor, and record executive from Inglewood, California. Closely associated with the West Coast hip-hop scene of the 1990s, he became known for a forceful delivery, street-oriented writing, and a sound rooted in gangsta rap and G-funk. His stage name refers to the Ingram MAC-10 firearm.
Mack 10 began recording in the early 1990s and first attracted wider attention through his connection with Ice Cube. He appeared on Cube's *Bootlegs & B-Sides* compilation on the track "What Can I Do? (Remix)," establishing a relationship that shaped the early part of his career. Ice Cube later played a major production role on Mack 10's self-titled debut album, released by Priority Records in 1995.
His third album, *The Recipe*, appeared in 1998 and became another significant chart success, reaching the top 20 of the Billboard 200. It reinforced Mack 10's position as one of the prominent voices of the post-N.W.A. West Coast movement. His later solo albums included *The Paper Route* (2000), *Bang or Ball* (2001), *Ghetto, Gutter & Gangsta* (2003), *Hustla's Handbook* (2005), and *Soft White* (2009). Although these releases varied in commercial performance, they maintained his characteristic emphasis on regional identity, hustling narratives, crew loyalty, and the realities of street life.
Mack 10's most influential group work came through Westside Connection, the rap supergroup he formed with Ice Cube and WC. The trio first appeared together on Mack 10's debut album, then developed into a major collaborative act. Their 1996 album *Bow Down* reached number two on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum. The record's title track and other songs presented an assertive West Coast perspective during a period when regional identity was central to hip-hop culture. Westside Connection returned with *Terrorist Threats* in 2003, led by the single "Gangsta Nation," featuring Nate Dogg. Mack 10 left the group in 2005 after a dispute with Ice Cube, and the group did not produce another album as a trio.
Beyond performing, Mack 10 established Hoo-Bangin' Records in 1996. The label and its associated production operations helped promote West Coast artists including Allfrumtha I, The Comrads, and Glasses Malone. Mack 10 also collaborated with Malone on the album *Money Music* in 2011, extending his role from rapper to mentor and executive.
He has made occasional appearances in film and television, including roles in *I'm Bout It*, *Thicker than Water*, and *Random Acts of Violence*, as well as appearances in music documentaries and the video game *Def Jam: Fight for NY*. Mack 10's lasting importance rests on his combination of solo work, label-building, and participation in Westside Connection, which made him a recognizable and durable figure in West Coast rap.
