Sophie Charlene Akland Monk is an Australian singer, actress, model, and television personality whose career has moved between pop music, Hollywood film, and reality television. Born in London on December 14, 1979, she moved with her family to Queensland's Gold Coast as a child. She received classical opera training and worked as a Marilyn Monroe impersonator at Warner Bros. Movie World before entering the entertainment industry.
Monk became widely known in 2000 through the first Australian season of the reality talent series Popstars. Selected as one of the members of the newly formed girl group Bardot, she benefited from the show's considerable public exposure. Bardot's debut single, "Poison," and its self-titled album both reached number one on the Australian charts, giving the group an unusually strong start. The band followed with singles including "I Should've Never Let You Go," "These Days," "A.S.A.P.," and "I Need Somebody." Bardot's second album, Play It Like That, continued the group's commercial run, although the band dissolved in 2002 after a relatively brief career.
Monk then pursued a solo recording career with Warner Music Australia. Her debut single, "Inside Outside," reached the Australian top five in 2002. It was followed by "Get the Music On" and "One Breath Away," while her album Calendar Girl was released in 2003. Since 2018, Monk has been best known as the host of Love Island Australia. Her informal, comic presentation style has become a defining part of the program, balancing the show's romantic competition with a knowingly playful tone. She has also hosted the revival of Beauty and the Geek Australia, appeared as a panellist on The Hundred with Andy Lee, participated in Lego Masters Australia, and competed as Dragonfly on The Masked Singer Australia.
