Biography

Jasmin Wagner (born April 20, 1980, in Hamburg, West Germany) is a German singer, actress and television presenter. She became widely known in the 1990s under the stage name Bluemchen, a name that became closely associated with the era's German happy hardcore, Eurodance and pop music. For international releases, she also used the name Blossom.

Wagner began her music career in 1995 at the age of 15. Her breakthrough came with "Herz an Herz," a fast-paced cover of a song by the German duo Paso Doble. The single reached the German Top 10 and established Bluemchen as one of the most recognizable young performers in German pop. Her debut album, Herzfrequenz, followed in 1996 and combined energetic electronic dance tracks with simple melodies, romantic themes and occasional ballads. Other successful singles from the album included "Kleiner Satellit (Piep, Piep)," "Boomerang" and "Du und ich."

The English-language version of her debut album was released as Heartbeat under the name Blossom. This marked an attempt to expand her audience beyond German-speaking countries, with English versions of songs such as "Herz an Herz" and "Du und ich." Further albums followed in the late 1990s, including Verliebt..., Jasmin and Die Welt gehoert dir. During this period, Wagner became one of the defining German pop acts of the decade, earning several major music awards and selling millions of records. Her music was characterized by an intentionally youthful image, high-energy performances and a mixture of rave, techno-pop and Eurodance influences.

Wagner ended the original Bluemchen era in 2001. She subsequently explored several different artistic directions. She appeared as Denim Girl on the rock-oriented track "Are You Ready for Some Darkness," recorded with Bela B for a Turbonegro tribute project, and also began releasing music under her own name. Her first album as Jasmin Wagner, Die Versuchung, arrived in 2006 and presented a more mature, retro-influenced pop style than her earlier dance recordings.

Alongside music, Wagner developed a career in acting and television. She appeared in film and television productions including Driven, Operation Dance Sensation and various German television projects. She also worked as a presenter for broadcasters including RTL, ProSieben and MTV. From the late 2000s onward, theater became an important part of her work. She performed in productions at venues such as the Hamburger Kammerspiele, Berlin's Schlosspark Theater and the Comodie Dresden, taking on roles in comedy, drama and musical theater.

After an extended absence, Wagner returned as Bluemchen in 2019. Her comeback performance at a 1990s revival event in Gelsenkirchen was attended by more than 60,000 people. She followed the return with new recordings, including "Computerliebe," a new version of "Herz an Herz" and collaborations with artists such as Finch and David Hasselhoff. In 2021, she released Von Herzen under her own name. The album reached number six on the German albums chart and explored what was described as an electro-schlager sound, linking her 1990s dance background with contemporary German pop.

Wagner continued performing as Bluemchen through the first half of the 2020s. In March 2025, she announced that she would end her musical career after a 30th anniversary farewell tour. The final concert took place in Mannheim on November 29, 2025. Her career remains notable for combining the commercial impact of German 1990s dance pop with a later, broader body of work in music, theater, film and television.
