Wiki

Biography

Jesse McCartney is an American singer, songwriter, actor, and voice actor whose career has moved between teen pop, adult contemporary music, television, film, animation, and video games. Born April 9, 1987, in Ardsley, New York, he began performing in community theater at the age of seven. Early stage work included appearances in productions of "Oliver!" and "The King and I," establishing a foundation for a career that would combine music and acting.

McCartney gained his first broad exposure as J.R. Chandler on the daytime drama "All My Children." He joined the cast in the late 1990s and received two Daytime Emmy nominations for the role. In 1999, he became the youngest member of the pop group Dream Street. The band developed a following among younger listeners and released its self-titled debut album in 2001. Although Dream Street ended the following year, the group gave McCartney experience with recording, touring, and the highly visual demands of pop performance.

He began developing a solo career while still a teenager. His first solo release, the EP "JMac," appeared in 2003, followed by the album "Beautiful Soul" in 2004. The title song introduced McCartney as a polished solo performer, while the album combined bright pop melodies with elements of pop rock and contemporary R&B. "Beautiful Soul" reached the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 and eventually earned platinum certification in the United States. Its success made McCartney one of the most recognizable young male pop singers of the mid-2000s.

His second album, "Right Where You Want Me," arrived in 2006 and reflected a more mature songwriting approach. McCartney co-wrote nearly all of the material, moving beyond the straightforward teen-pop image associated with his debut. He followed it with "Departure" in 2008, a more rhythm-driven release shaped by contemporary production. The album produced "Leavin'," his most successful solo single in the United States. The song reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and became a defining recording of his career.

McCartney also established himself as a songwriter for other performers. He co-wrote "Bleeding Love" with Ryan Tedder, and Leona Lewis's recording became an international number-one hit. The song demonstrated that McCartney's musical importance extended beyond his own albums and helped strengthen his reputation as a songwriter with an ear for accessible, emotionally direct pop.

Alongside music, McCartney maintained a steady acting career. He starred as Bradin Westerly on the television series "Summerland" and later appeared in programs including "Greek," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," and "Fear the Walking Dead." His film work includes "Keith" and "Chernobyl Diaries." Voice acting became another major part of his profile: he voiced Theodore in the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" films, JoJo McDodd in "Horton Hears a Who!," and Terence in the "Tinker Bell" series. He is also the English voice of Roxas and Ventus in the "Kingdom Hearts" games and Dick Grayson, Robin, and Nightwing in "Young Justice."

After a period focused heavily on acting, McCartney returned to recording with "In Technicolor" in 2014, issued through his own Eight0Eight Records. He later released the album "New Stage" in 2021. His 2024 EP "All's Well" continued his shift toward more adult themes and a relaxed pop sound, underscoring his transition from teen idol to an independent, multi-disciplinary entertainer.
