Christina Milian is an American singer, songwriter, and actress whose career has moved between pop and R&B recording, mainstream film, television, and digital entertainment. Born Christine Flores on September 26, 1981, in Jersey City, New Jersey, she was raised in Waldorf, Maryland. She began performing while still young, appearing in television programs and small film roles before establishing herself as a recording artist.
Milian's first major musical exposure came through her appearance on Ja Rule's 2000 single "Between Me and You," which reached the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100. The collaboration helped lead to a recording contract with Def Soul. Her first album, Christina Milian, was issued internationally in 2001 and in some markets in 2002. Its singles "AM to PM" and "When You Look at Me" became especially successful in the United Kingdom, where both reached the Top 3. The album presented Milian as a youthful, accessible performer working at the meeting point of radio pop, contemporary R&B, hip-hop, and dance music.
She also developed a reputation as a songwriter and featured vocalist. Among her early writing credits was Jennifer Lopez's "Play," while her voice was heard on the theme song "Call Me, Beep Me!" from the Disney animated series Kim Possible. These projects broadened her profile beyond her own albums and demonstrated her ability to work within both pop and urban music settings.
Milian's second album, It's About Time, arrived in 2004 and became her strongest commercial statement in the United States. The lead single, "Dip It Low," combined a club-oriented production with a deliberately provocative performance style. It became a Top 10 hit in the United States and the United Kingdom, and remains her signature recording. "Whatever U Want," featuring Joe Budden, followed as another successful international single. Her third studio album, So Amazin', was released in 2006. Produced largely by the team Cool & Dre, it included "Say I," featuring Young Jeezy, and adopted a more contemporary hip-hop and R&B direction. Although the album performed respectably, Milian soon parted ways with Island Records.
Subsequent music projects were affected by label changes and delayed album plans. She released the independent EP 4U in 2015 and continued to appear on collaborative tracks, including the dance single "Hello" with the Stafford Brothers and Lil Wayne. Her later recording work has been more occasional, but music has remained an important part of her public identity.
As an actress, Milian gained wider attention with the romantic comedy Love Don't Cost a Thing (2003), followed by roles in Torque, Be Cool, Pulse, and the direct-to-video sequel Bring It On: Fight to the Finish. She later appeared in television movies and series, including Christmas Cupid, Grandfathered, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. She served as the social media correspondent for the early seasons of The Voice, adding hosting and interview work to her career.
In the streaming era, Milian played leading roles in the Netflix romantic comedy Falling Inn Love and the holiday film Meet Me Next Christmas. She also joined Step Up: High Water in its third season as Collette Jones, taking over the role after the death of Naya Rivera. In 2024, she appeared as Maria LaGuerta in the television series Dexter: Original Sin. Across music, film, and television, Milian has built a versatile career defined by her ability to move comfortably between entertainment formats.
