Amy Sky (born September 24, 1960) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, record producer, theatre performer, and television host from Toronto, Ontario. A classically trained musician with a degree in music theory and composition from the University of Toronto, she built a career that moved between adult contemporary pop, country-influenced songwriting, production, and musical theatre. She plays piano, guitar, cello, and recorder.
Sky began writing songs as a teenager and entered the professional music business in the early 1980s. She worked as a staff songwriter for MCA Music Nashville before writing for publishing companies connected with Warner-Chappell and EMI in the United States and Germany. This period established her as a songwriter before she became widely known as a recording artist. Her compositions have been recorded by performers including Diana Ross, Anne Murray, Olivia Newton-John, Reba McEntire, Belinda Carlisle, Heart, Cyndi Lauper, Aaron Neville, Sheena Easton, and Roch Voisine.
Although her first album, A Breath of Fresh Air, was recorded earlier, it was not released until years later. Sky's breakthrough as a solo artist came with Cool Rain in 1996. The album introduced her as a reflective and polished pop singer, with songs centered on relationships, resilience, and emotional self-examination. Singles such as "I Will Take Care of You," "Don't Leave Me Alone," and "'Til You Love Somebody" became Canadian radio favorites. Cool Rain earned Sky a Juno nomination for Best New Solo Artist.
She followed it with Burnt by the Sun in 1998, an album that continued her adult contemporary sound while broadening its emotional and musical range. The record produced further radio success, including "Love, Pain and the Whole Damn Thing," "Waterfall," and "Ordinary Miracles." Later albums included Phenomenal Woman, With This Kiss, and the compilation Life Lessons: The Best of Amy Sky. She also released the seasonal album The Lights of December and returned to new solo material with Alive & Awake in 2012.
Sky's work has frequently extended beyond her own recordings. She has written and produced for Olivia Newton-John on several projects, including The Rumour, Stronger Than Before, Grace and Gratitude, and Christmas Wish. Sky also executive produced A Celebration in Song: Olivia Newton-John and Friends, a charitable album connected with Newton-John's fundraising efforts. In 2016, Sky joined Newton-John and Beth Nielsen Chapman for Liv On, a collaborative album addressing grief, healing, and the experience of loss. That same year, she released Twilight Rose, a collection influenced by Hebrew spiritual music.
Sky has also worked in theatre and television. She performed in a Toronto production of the musical Blood Brothers and hosted parenting programming for Rogers TV. Her later theatrical work has included writing music and lyrics for Fly High and developing Beyond - The Musical with Steven McKinnon and Annabel Fitzsimmons.
Mental health advocacy has been an important part of Sky's public work. She has spoken openly about mood disorders and postpartum depression, using her songwriting and public appearances to challenge stigma and promote self-care. Her advocacy has been recognized with honors including the CAMH Courage to Come Back award and the Mood Disorders Association of Ontario Hero Inspiration Award. She has also been recognized for her support of artists' rights.
In 2022, Sky and her husband, singer-songwriter Marc Jordan, released He Sang She Sang, a collection of duet performances. The album received a Juno nomination for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year in 2023. Across her career, Sky has maintained a dual identity as a solo performer and behind-the-scenes creator, earning recognition not only for her own recordings but also for the durability of her songwriting and production work.
