Per CMT's Greatest Religious Songs, and Vince himself, the first verse of this song was written about Vince's brother, but he could not finish it. Then, upon Keith Whitley's passing, Vince wrote the rest of the song. Choosing Patty Loveless and Ricky Scaggs to help him sing it was, in my opinion, awesome choices. Allison Kraus would sing this beuatifully also i believe, but then she has a voice made from Angels.
