Synopsis

Sharon den Adel performs against a blue, star-filled backdrop while the other members of Within Temptation appear in stark fantasy environments. Green-screen imagery places the musicians amid fire, thunderstorms, cosmic scenery and a futuristic industrial setting. As the performance develops, the separate images build toward a surreal finale in which the band plays together on the surface of a glowing red planet.

Factoids & Trivia

• "Ice Queen" has more than one official video. The earlier Dutch version uses a computer-screen concept, with a woman finding Within Temptation footage online and watching a performance recorded in Landgraaf in 2001.

• The internationally circulated version dates from 2003 and was made with extensive CGI and green-screen compositing, reflecting the era's fascination with digital fantasy imagery.

• Production credits for the international video list Revolver Film Company AB, with additional post-production work by FX2 and The Ranch.

• The video was created for the band's international push after the song became a major breakthrough in the Netherlands and Belgium. The single reached No. 2 on the Dutch Single Top 100 and helped drive renewed interest in the "Mother Earth" album.
