Synopsis
Blink-182 wake beside their girlfriends, quietly steal personal items, and reunite for a day of carefree mischief around San Diego's Belmont Park. Their fun turns sour when the women track them down outside SOMA, where a chaotic gunfight breaks out. The band eventually reaches the stage, only to discover that the concert has been postponed. The original cut ends with the deliberately cartoonish violence intact, while the commonly circulated edit removes the shootout.
Factoids & Trivia
- "M+M's" was Blink-182's first music video and was made with a budget of less than $10,000.
- The video was filmed at Belmont Park and SOMA, the San Diego all-ages venue where the band regularly played.
- The original version became difficult to show on MTV because of the sequence in which the girlfriends use guns against the band. A censored edit removed the shootout and was more suitable for television.
- The band did not initially expect the video to receive much exposure. It gained a wider audience after appearing in surf, skateboarding, and snowboarding compilations, including the surf film "Good Times."
- Tom DeLonge once described an even more extreme original idea for the clip: a deliberately excessive slow-motion shooting sequence aimed at male targets. The finished video retained the confrontational comedy but used a much less graphic concept.
- A brief appearance by Anne Hoppus, Mark Hoppus' sister and the author of the band's early biography, can reportedly be spotted in the darker scenes of the original cut.
