Synopsis
A young Polish boy ignores his mother's warning and keeps watching television. On screen, Wolfsheim appear traveling in a truck, and the boy's imagination carries him into a dream in which he rides along and witnesses scenes from the passing world. Weddings and other positive moments appear in color, while darker events are shown in black and white. The boundary between television, fantasy, and reality remains deliberately fluid until his mother wakes him and sends him to bed. The video closes on the word "Koniec," meaning "end."
Factoids & Trivia
- The video was filmed in Poland and runs for approximately 3 minutes and 43 seconds.
- Its visual design uses color and black and white as a simple emotional code: the boy's dream and its hopeful moments are colorful, while negative events are rendered without color.
- The television functions as the gateway into the boy's imagined world, matching the song's theme of attractive but deceptive "artificial worlds."
- "Kuenstliche Welten" was Wolfsheim's first single performed entirely in German after years of primarily English-language releases.
- The single was released on March 26, 1999, as the third single from the album "Spectators." It reached No. 66 on the German singles chart.
- The video was included on "Kompendium," Wolfsheim's 2002 video release, which collected seven of the duo's music videos alongside concert footage and additional material.
- The single release also featured a club remix, a symphonic version recorded with the Prague Philharmonic, and the otherwise hard-to-find song "F."
