Synopsis

Whale perform amid a deliberately unruly, brightly colored outdoor setup while Cia Berg dominates the frame with her braces, exaggerated expressions, and restless physicality. Around her, a group of nearly bare-chested men in metallic briefs jump, pose, wrestle, and behave like an unruly chorus. The video turns the song's provocative nonsense into a manic piece of performance art, mixing punk aggression, comic sexuality, and surreal pop imagery. Its cheap, homemade energy only heightens the sense that anything could happen next.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was made for approximately 300 pounds, an unusually small budget for a clip that received heavy international television exposure.
  • MTV Europe played the video frequently and helped introduce Whale to audiences outside Sweden. It reportedly spent six weeks in the network's Buzz Bin rotation, with roughly 18 plays per week.
  • In 1994, the clip won Best Video at the first MTV Europe Music Awards. The award placed Whale alongside much bigger names and helped turn the song into an international alternative hit.
  • Cia Berg's braces became one of the video's defining visual signatures. Contemporary coverage repeatedly singled out her smile and exaggerated performance as central to the clip's impact.
  • Whale began when Gordon Cyrus and Henrik Schyffert met while working on a television commercial. Berg, then Schyffert's girlfriend, joined them for the recording, which began as an experiment rather than a planned band project.
  • Schyffert later explained that "slobo" came from a Swedish misunderstanding involving the term "Sloane," producing the deliberately nonsensical title.
  • The song and video were featured in an episode of Beavis and Butt-Head in 1995, extending the clip's afterlife within American alternative-culture television.
