Synopsis

A pregnant woman stands at the center of a surreal, waterlogged world, filmed in cool, dreamlike images that make her seem both vulnerable and monumental. She caresses her belly while Andy Cairns watches from a distance, singing with an uneasy calm. As the imagery shifts between intimacy and disorientation, Cairns appears asleep in her lap. The camera steadily pulls back until the strange tableau is revealed to exist inside the body of a gigantic woman.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was shot on 35mm color film over September 21-22, 1995, at Stage 6b in Three Mills, London.
  • Cani Gonzalez plays the pregnant woman, opposite Andy Cairns. The production also lists Therapy? members Fyfe Ewing and Michael McKeegan among the performers.
  • The video was produced by Oil Factory Films for A&M Records and runs for approximately four minutes and 50 seconds.
  • "Diane" is Therapy?'s radically rearranged cover of the Husker Du song. Their version reduces the track to vocals and cello, creating a stark contrast with the heavier material associated with the band.
  • The single was released in November 1995 and became one of Therapy?'s most successful European singles, reaching No. 26 in the United Kingdom and No. 20 in Ireland.
  • The video was later included in the "Power To The People: British Music Videos 1966-2016" DVD collection.
