• The video was filmed on June 5, 1985, at S.I.R. Studios in Los Angeles.

• The animated material was created by Drew Takahashi of Colossal Pictures. The production reportedly began with a completed live-action video before the animated elements were added and combined with it.

• Prince and The Revolution wear costumes inspired by the visual style of the Around the World in a Day album cover. Prince's cloud-patterned outfit was adapted from the artwork's colorful, surreal imagery.

• The video uses an edited version of the song's extended remix, giving it a longer running time than the standard single version.

• Future Nirvana and Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear appears among the background dancers. According to an anecdote later recalled by Dave Grohl, Smear struggled with the synchronized choreography and was almost sent home, but Prince allowed him to remain because he liked Smear's hair.
