Synopsis

Blaze Bayley enters a strange, computer-generated alien world dressed like a space-age drifter, following the song's themes of risk, fate and temptation. He arrives at a futuristic bar and casino populated by bizarre extraterrestrials, while Iron Maiden perform inside the same surreal environment. Eddie appears among the alien figures, taking on roles connected with the casino and the band's performance. The video moves between gambling imagery, space-fantasy landscapes and the group's animated appearance, creating a playful, otherworldly counterpart to the song's warning about dangerous choices.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video uses the edited version of the song, running for about 6 minutes instead of the 9:56 album version.
  • It was one of Iron Maiden's earliest videos to rely almost entirely on computer-generated imagery. The technology was still relatively unusual for a major rock video in 1998.
  • The setting resembles a futuristic casino in an alien universe, with the visual style drawing comparisons to space-fantasy films such as Star Wars.
  • Blaze Bayley's brown hat and long coat were adapted from concept artwork associated with "Stranger in a Strange Land" from the Somewhere in Time era.
  • Eddie is integrated into the animated world rather than appearing only as a conventional mascot. He is shown in casino-related roles, including a dealer-like appearance, and also functions as part of the presentation surrounding the band.
  • The single was released on March 9, 1998, two weeks before Virtual XI. It became the first Iron Maiden single to include a video as part of its release package.
  • The song was written by Steve Harris and featured Blaze Bayley during his brief period as Iron Maiden's vocalist.
  • The single was issued in several collectible formats, including a picture disc and two CD editions with different artwork and bonus material.
