Synopsis

A woman lies awake on a mattress, lost in thoughts of a troubled romance, while Def Leppard perform "Love Bites" in a recording studio. Joe Elliott sings into the microphone as the band builds the power ballad around him, and the woman's isolated presence returns throughout the clip. The contrast between the intimate, reflective scenes and the controlled studio performance gives the video a subdued, emotionally distant atmosphere rather than the spectacle of a live concert.

Factoids & Trivia

• The promotional video was filmed in Holland. Steve Clark is seen playing a Fender Stratocaster during the band sequences.

• "Love Bites" was Def Leppard's only single to reach No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Its success helped establish the song as one of the defining power ballads of the late 1980s.

• The track began as a country-style ballad brought to the band by producer Mutt Lange. Def Leppard reshaped it with heavier guitars, layered harmonies, and a more dramatic rock arrangement.

• The title had originally been attached to a different song. That earlier composition was later retitled "I Wanna Be Your Hero" and released as a B-side and on the compilation album Retro Active.

• The video was included on the 1988 Historia home-video compilation as a bonus after the main program's closing credits.
