Synopsis

Bad Religion tear across a barren desert in a series of battered cars while Erik Estrada plays a motorcycle highway patrol officer pursuing them. The band members alternate between driving sequences, close-ups, and performance footage, with the action building toward reckless collisions and vehicular chaos. The deliberately over-the-top chase concept turns the song into a fast, comic road movie, even though the imagery has little connection to the lyrics' portrait of an obsessive and destructive relationship.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video features Erik Estrada, best known for playing Officer Frank "Ponch" Poncherello on the television series "CHiPs." He appears as the motorcycle officer pursuing the band.

• Don Knotts was reportedly considered for the officer role before the production approached Estrada. According to Jay Bentley, Estrada accepted the part without hesitation.

• The desert car-crash concept was not devised by the band as a visual interpretation of the song. Brett Gurewitz later said the record label pushed the driving-focused idea on them and that it had nothing to do with the meaning of "Infected."

• The clip was produced by Squeak Pictures and appeared during the band's 1994 move into wider alternative-rock exposure with "Stranger Than Fiction." "Infected" became one of the album's best-known songs and a regular part of Bad Religion's live repertoire.

• A trade-publication photo from the shoot shows the band posing with Estrada beside one of the cars, documenting the production's deliberately pop-culture-heavy angle.
