Synopsis

Alanis Morissette performs "Head Over Feet" in an intimate, stripped-down setting, singing directly toward the camera while playing harmonica. The video keeps its visual language deliberately simple: a locked-off shot remains fixed on her close-up instead of cutting between locations or developing a conventional storyline. One version ends with Morissette laughing after the performance, while an alternate version broadens the scene to include her band and children moving around and playing harmonica.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was released in September 1996, following the song's international single release in July of that year.
  • Its defining technical choice is the locked-off camera. The field of vision does not change, giving the performance an unusually direct and unembellished feel.
  • Two versions circulated: the "Head" version and the "Feet" version. The latter was shown in Europe and Asia.
  • The version associated with the 12th take ends with Morissette laughing, preserving an informal studio moment rather than cutting away from it.
  • The alternate version features Morissette and her band with children running and playing harmonica around them.
  • Both versions were included on the 1997 home-video release *Jagged Little Pill, Live*.
  • The clip received heavy rotation on MuchMusic, VH1, MTV, and other music-video channels. On November 23, 1996, it was reported as VH1's most-played video.

Lyrics

I had no choice but to hear you
You stated your case time and again
I thought about it

You treat me like I'm a princess
I'm not used to liking that
You ask how my day was

You've already won me over in spite of me
And don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
Don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it
It's all your fault
