Synopsis

A man leaves his distracted family to walk the dog and passes a pub where Phil Collins and his band are playing to an almost indifferent crowd. Inside, the performance initially receives little attention, with patrons absorbed in their conversations. Once "Sussudio" begins, however, the room gradually comes alive. The audience starts dancing, the atmosphere turns celebratory, and the previously overlooked band becomes the center of the night. The video ends with the pub empty, leaving Collins alone at the piano.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was filmed at The Princess Victoria, a pub in Shepherd's Bush, West London. At the time, the venue was owned by Richard Branson.
  • The television watched by the family at the beginning is showing Phil Collins' earlier solo video for "In the Air Tonight," creating a self-referential joke.
  • Daryl Stuermer and Chester Thompson appear with Collins. Both were long-time members of his touring and recording band.
  • The empty-pub ending leads directly into the video for "One More Night." The second video uses the same location, presenting it after closing and in a much more subdued style.
  • The clip captures the song's transformation from background entertainment into a full dance-floor moment, mirroring the single's breakthrough from a seemingly simple pub performance into a large-scale pop celebration.
  • "Sussudio" was released in 1985 as part of the album *No Jacket Required*, a period when Collins' videos often mixed straightforward performance footage with playful visual ideas.
