Message: If CC Sabathia had a Hall of Fame vote. . .

If he could vote for the Hall of Fame, Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia likely would have cast his ballot in favor of some big-name players denied election Wednesday because of suspicions raised over the era of performance enhancing drugs. "You can argue on both sides, but I feel like if guys put up the numbers I think they should be in the Hall of Fame," Sabathia told Stephen A. Smith and Ryan Ruocco on ESPN radio. "That's my opinion . . . I came in towards the tail end of the steroid era. Looking back on it now, I feel if guys put up the numbers, they should be in." Sabathia was specifically asked about catcher Mike Piazza, who did not achieve the required 75 percent of the vote from the Baseball Writers' Association of America. "Nobody really ever called him out other than a reporter seeing acne on his back," Sabathia said of Piazza, who appeared on 57.8 percent of the ballots Wednesday. "He's one of the greatest -- probably the greatest hitting catcher of all time. Hopefully he gets in." Sabathia was also asked about Yankees teammates Andy Pettitte and Alex Rodriguez, both of whom have admitted past usage of PEDs. "I love Andy Pettitte," he said. "He's been a great mentor and great person in my career since I've come to New York. From what he said, he was hurting he used HGH], but he's had a great career, put up good numbers. For me, he's a Hall of Famer. A-Rod's definitely a Hall of Famer." Sabathia, who had elbow surgery after the season, said his arm feels fine and he started his offseason throwing program a few days ago.
