Miami Vice, remake over remake...

After compiling a small list of films which were filmed back to back in the post "Two in a row", it is time to do it again and compile a list of similar films - this time: remakes!

Miami Vice, the hard thriller by action-master Michael Mann is currently in theaters and getting great reviews. Another proof that letting the right guy do a sequel/remake is always a great decision (see Aliens). But let's start our small focus-on-tv-series-remakes:

2003 S.W.A.T. Yes, this was also a remake. The TV series dates back to 1975 and is no comparison to the nerve-wracking 2003 screen adaptation.

2000 Charlie's Angels The film from 2000 was a great success for music video director McG (imdb) ("kid rock videos"). The difference between TV series and movie: one black-haired girl re-arranged the blonde-brunette-brunette trio on screen.

1998 The Avengers If it wasn't Uma Thurman who portrayed Emma Peel in the box-office-poison remake, the film would have been long forgotten. the TV series was indeed a charming one, as the German title "Mit Schirm, Charme und Melonde" indicated.

1996 Mission Impossible Who would have expected that this franchise would lead to 3 sequels? The producers were right when they decided to revive the classic which was on TV from 1966-1973.

1993 The Fugitive Selecting Harrison Ford as the new Mr. Kimble was surely a wise decision, but that a new generation of fans who missed the original in the 60s could be lured to the cinemas wasn't so sure. The film was a hit and was nomiated for 7 OSCARS!

After so many good examples, let's forget about the Dukes of Hazard movie and let's light a candle for the to-be-released Magnum P.I. movie...
