onDemand Services Mostly used in connection with Video on demand (VOD) systems allow users to select and watch video content over a network, sometimes as part of an interactive TV concept. VOD systems either "stream" content, allowing viewing while the video is being downloaded, or "download" it in which the program is brought in its entirety to a set-top box or computer system before viewing starts. All on demand applications have in common that the viewer is not perceived as an audience but as an active selector of content and thus is able to chose video content in near-real-time to be consumed.
