Portfolio Main Screen

The main screen of Clipland PRO | Portfolio© is split into two sides:

The left side: "Your Files":
This panel shows all files you have uploaded so far. To the right of the "Your Files" tab is a link "Upload File(s)". Click on it and a the options to upload files roll out.
You have three options in order to upload files: Via your browser (http), from another webserver (effectively downloading files from the web) or via FTP (file transfer protocol). All methods have their pros and cons. Decide which method suits your needs.
  • Via browser usually fits the average user uploading multiple not too large files.
  • From another webserver is your option of choice is you already uploaded your files to the internet and if you don't want to squeeze these megabytes through your dial-up connection once again. Just let our webserver download the files vie backend to your portfolio.
  • FTP is for lots of files, large files or both. FTP guarantees for an uninterupted connection during upload and is reliable for large files. But you need experience with ftp-client software and need to rename your files according to our upload-token-system's requirements.

The left side: The drop-down options on each file:
Each uploaded files is represented by a horizontal slot. Clicking on this slot opens a pull down menu with advanced options for each file.
  • Column 1: The file-type icon:
This row holds an icon representing the video-files file-type (or container-format). At this stage the first approach to determine the filetype of a file is done by examining the file's file-extension. Thus try to name your files correctly and avoid naming for example an MPEG file MOV, or similar.
If available this icon changes to a still-image screen-shot from the Clipland database. But this presupposes an active "link" as described below. A click on such a still will exand it for larger viewing.
  • Column 2: The "linked?" indicator
Clipland's core is a large textual meta-data database you may have used before. By using Clipland PRO | Portfolio© you have transparent access to this data: Via your supplied credits for each file the file can be "linked" to the entry (if it already exists) in Clipland's database. A small chain symbol indicates such an active soft link to our meta-data.
  • Column 3: The file name
This is the filename of the file. You can change it at any time. If the file is in one of your showreels the change of name will be carried over there as well.
  • Column 4: Delete/Play Buttons
The "X"-Button deletes this file from your portfolio. It will also be removed from all of your showreels in which this files was.
The ">"-Button plays this specific file.

Each slot is also a link. Click on it and a drop-down menu will open.
  • Row 1: Rename File
Use this text-input field to change the name of this file visible in the file-slot and file-slots in your reels.
  • Row 2: This file contains...
This row has no rollout function. You can select weather the file that is referenced by this slot contains only one segment (say only one commercial or a music video). This is the option "a single clip". The other option in this select-box is "a montage of clips". Select this is you upload aready-made showreel with this file. Typically a file of this type has a beginni9ng slate crediting the author and then a fast-cut series of clips representing various works.
  • Row 3: Edit Credits
Depending on the type you selected in Row 2 the "Edit Credits" row will roll out a large textarea for the entry of free form credits associated with this file (montage of clips) or a table of fields with one field for every department involved in the production of the associated file (a single clip).
Single Clip: You need to select the type of material: select from TV Commercial, Music Video, Movie Trailer and Short Film. Each selection will roll-out appropriate fields for the entry of credits.
  • Row 4: Select Associated Rights & License
This row's drop-down menu enables you to manage rights and the license you issue with this file. Please take your time to adjust these settings to the correct values. Depending on the selections you set here this file will be viewable by the public. The correctness of these settings here are your responsibility. Please also read the help paragraph about Copyright.
  • Row 5: File Information
If possible our system automatically detects the container format of your video-file (AVI,MPEG,MOV,ASF,etc...) and technical specifications of the file.

The right side: "Your Reels":
After the upload of your files you can compile these files into showreels showing off your work. This is the very essense of Clipland PRO | Portfolio©.
The easiest method to compile reels assumes that each file you uploaded represents one segment of the showreel you are about to compile.

Create a Showreel
First create a reel by clicking the "Create Reel(s)" tab.
Select a descriptive name like 'Automotive Reel 2005', 'Best-Of Beauty Products' or similar. This will make managing your reels easier. Now, after you created the click on the newly created slot. This will open the "Reel Manager"

The "Active/off" selector
Showreels are "active" by default. This means they get exhibited on Clipland PRO's public pages - after all this is the idea behind a portfolio. Anyway, in case you would (maybe temporarily) suspend a reel from exhibition you can turn it "off". A reel with the selector set to "off" will not be shown on public pages and is thus hidden from the public.
