Synopsis

Coko is drawn to a handsome stranger, but his attraction quickly loses its appeal when he approaches her with tired pickup lines and disrespectful intentions. What begins as flirtation turns into a sharp dismissal, as she recognizes his behavior as fake, cheap, and "triflin'." Eve reinforces the song's tough-minded response with a rap verse aimed at men who rely on money, bravado, and empty promises. The video presents the confrontation through performances and attitude-driven R&B imagery.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Triflin'" was released in 1999 as part of Coko's debut solo album, "Hot Coko," which arrived on August 9, 1999.
  • The track features Eve, then an emerging Ruff Ryders rapper, whose guest verse gives the song a harder hip-hop edge.
  • The song reached No. 69 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
  • "Triflin'" was promoted as the follow-up to Coko's solo single "Sunshine" and was described in RCA advertising as a "street anthem."
  • Brian Alexander Morgan produced the track, with additional co-production from Bink. Morgan had previously written and produced major songs for Coko's group SWV.
  • Promotional 12-inch releases included remixes by Swizz Beatz and Mobb Deep's Havoc, although a standard commercial single release was apparently not issued.

Lyrics

f/ Eve

[Eve]
Ice gleam when you walk through
Stopped in my tracks, like daddy what I need
But I'm a play the back
Got a whole lot of chicks wanna say they touch your stacks
And I see your playin' Santa Claus
Got 'em all on your lap
But they givin' you whatever you want
Not me though, stallion ride rough
Plus I'm trying to see dough
Enough to make you fiend
Coko like cane
