Synopsis

A newly married couple drives through the mountains, celebrating the start of their life together. Their happiness ends when the car crashes, killing the bride and leaving the groom alive but devastated. He withdraws into grief and depression as Winger perform the song amid dark, dramatic imagery. The video contrasts the couple's brief joy with the survivor's emotional collapse, framing "Hungry" as a story about loss, isolation, and the struggle to keep going.

Factoids & Trivia

  • Before the crash, the car radio plays Winger's earlier song "Headed for a Heartbreak," creating a direct link between the band's videos and its debut-era material.
  • "Hungry" was released as a single in September 1989 from Winger's self-titled debut album. It reached No. 85 on the Billboard Hot 100.
  • Guitarist Reb Beach later recalled that the shoot was a big-budget production and that the band had flown in from a concert date. He described the overnight schedule as particularly exhausting, saying the members got no sleep.
  • The video's dramatic storyline was a notable contrast to the more performance-centered presentation associated with several of Winger's other late-1980s clips.
