Although most of New Order's music is ambiguous, this song is not. And the video created for it is, in my opinion, one of the most cinematic and powerful ever.

A series of long takes and in black and white, this 3+ minutes takes us on a tour through a world of unsteady relationships. Nearly every flavor of relationship is bittersweet -- from the insincere social circle of wealthy old ladies to the purely monetary relationships at the end of the video.

There's a profound sadness to the context, and yet it's filmed at the Carlton in Cannes, emphasizing the theme of the song, I suppose, that money can't buy love.

Throughout the video, the camera is constantly in motion, sweeping past these tableaux and ending as it begins, with a view of the Mediterannean.

I've never seen a more powerful set of images in a video. Nor have I ever watched a video as many times as I've seen this one. It's in the collection 'New Order Story.'
