Synopsis

Daryl Hall and John Oates are relaxing in an apartment when a glowing V-shaped guitar crashes through the window from the rooftop. Drawn upstairs, they encounter a mysterious four-man band and join an exuberant dance sequence. Hall then appears to fall from the roof, only to be found dancing among the clouds beside the moon. The others follow him into the surreal sky, where they swim, dance, and move through glowing neon letters spelling out "Method of Modern Love."

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video uses a special edit of the song that combines elements of the album recording and the extended 12-inch remix.
  • Guitarist G. E. Smith appears in the rooftop sequence, throwing the V-shaped guitar through the window. Smith was part of Hall & Oates' touring and recording band during the duo's most commercially successful period.
  • The video reflects the extravagant visual style associated with the 1984 album *Big Bam Boom*, favoring elaborate sets, choreography, theatrical props, and optical effects over a straightforward performance clip.
  • "Method of Modern Love" was released as the second single from *Big Bam Boom* in late 1984 and reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1985.
  • The song's hook later became part of the pop-cultural vocabulary through Weird Al Yankovic's 1985 polka medley "Hooked on Polkas" and Method Man's 1993 song "Method Man."
