Performing with Boogie Down Productions and D-Nice, he addresses the camera with the force of a teacher challenging a classroom, while the clip surrounds him with Bronx imagery, crew shots and visual references to the group's political identity. The video mirrors the song's battle-rap energy but presents KRS-One as an educator and cultural commentator, turning a boastful performance into a statement of purpose.

Factoids & Trivia

• Released in 1988, "My Philosophy" was the first music video directed by Fab 5 Freddy. His experience as a graffiti artist, filmmaker and hip-hop cultural bridge-builder shaped the clip's combination of street imagery, performance and visual history.

• Fab 5 Freddy had originally been pursuing the opportunity to direct a Public Enemy video. When Jive Records offered him the chance to work with KRS-One instead, he brought many of the visual ideas and the confrontational attitude he had planned for Public Enemy into "My Philosophy."

• The video belongs to the period when KRS-One was redefining Boogie Down Productions after the 1987 murder of DJ Scott La Rock. The aggressive imagery of the group's debut gave way to the more socially conscious "Teacher" persona associated with the album *By All Means Necessary*.

• Its imagery connects with the album cover's reference to Malcolm X, reinforcing the record's themes of political awareness, self-determination and the use of knowledge as power.

• D-Nice appears in the clip at a very young age. Fab 5 Freddy later recalled knowing him from the early New York hip-hop scene, when D-Nice was still a teenager.

• The track uses a sample from Stanley Turrentine's "Sister Sanctified." It was released as a single from *By All Means Necessary* in 1988.
