Synopsis

Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes appear trapped inside a surreal world governed by clocks and clockwork. Seated on strange moving chairs, they travel through a series of theatrical settings, including a giant cuckoo clock, a rotating clock face, a pendulum, a room of indifferent fashion models, and a dreamlike garden. The journey ends when the pair escape through a dissolving brick wall and walk together into the sunset, leaving the imagery of confinement and time behind.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video uses time as its central visual motif, with clock faces, gears, pendulums, circular tracks, and other mechanical imagery recurring throughout.
  • Simon and Nick's moving chairs make them resemble figures trapped inside an enormous mechanical toy or clock. The deliberately theatrical design gives the video a surreal, almost stage-bound quality.
  • Roger Taylor played drums on the recording but does not appear in the video. He had decided to step away from the public side of Arcadia and soon withdrew from music for several years.
  • "Goodbye Is Forever" was Arcadia's second single from the 1985 album "So Red the Rose." It became the project's second US charting single, reaching No. 33 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1986.
  • A separate video was also made for "Missing," the B-side of the single. That film used a very different, dreamlike photographic style rather than the clockwork fantasy of "Goodbye Is Forever."

Lyrics

Sometimes you have no choice
Sometimes you've got no voice to say
Say if you will the words--
Say if your world is so gray
We can decide this
There'll be no tears--
No tradgedy
Sure I wouldn't break and cry, if...
You walk away--
Believe me

Hey, goodbye
Goodbye is--forever
