Wiki

Synopsis

The video follows a lone woman through the eerie, fluorescent world of London's Mornington Crescent tube station. Her movements are presented in a detached, dreamlike style, with the station's enclosed spaces creating a growing sense of unease. Rather than matching the track with conventional performance footage, the film builds its mood through observation, repetition, and an increasingly strange atmosphere. A brief final passage delivers a startling twist, giving the seemingly simple journey a darker and more memorable aftertaste.

Factoids & Trivia

  • Emma Griffiths Malin plays the central character in the video.
  • Mornington Crescent tube station provides the video's main location, giving the film a distinctly London setting without turning the city into a conventional backdrop.
  • The video includes an approximately ten-second outro and is noted for its surprising ending.
  • "Be There" is effectively a vocal reworking of "Unreal," an instrumental track from UNKLE's album *Psyence Fiction*.
  • Ian Brown recorded his vocal in his home studio after receiving the track from James Lavelle. The recording took place shortly before Brown began serving a prison sentence in October 1998.
  • Released in 1999, the single became UNKLE's first major chart success in the United Kingdom, reaching No. 8.
