Synopsis

Shot in stark black and white, the video presents Scatman John as a charismatic performer moving through a fast-changing collage of split screens and geometric frames. Multiple images show him singing while dancers, instrumentalists, and other performers appear in rhythmically edited fragments. The fractured visual design mirrors the song's busy scat vocals and Eurodance momentum, turning the performance into a playful piece of visual collage rather than a conventional narrative. Its bold, high-contrast style gives the clip an unmistakably mid-1990s MTV-era identity.

Factoids & Trivia

• The clip is presented in black and white and uses a 4:3 frame, matching the television-oriented presentation of the period.

• Its central visual device is a fractured screen made up of several box-like panels. The arrangement repeatedly breaks the performance into separate images, creating a Cubist-inspired effect.

• Alongside Scatman John's vocal performance, the video features dancers and musicians miming or playing drums, bass, and trumpet.

• The video received substantial exposure on European music television. It was placed in heavy rotation on MTV Europe and appeared prominently on Germany's VIVA, France's MCM, and the UK's The Box.

• At the 1995 Billboard Music Video Awards, it received two nominations in the dance category: Best Clip and Best New Artist Clip.

• The song's presentation connected directly with John Larkin's personal history. Scat singing had helped him find a musical way around his lifelong stutter, and the track turned that once painful subject into the foundation of his public persona.

• The official video was later uploaded to Scatman John's YouTube channel, introducing the clip to a large online audience long after its original television run.
