Wiki

Synopsis

Rob Zombie tears through a surreal, horror-soaked road trip in a customized hot rod, with the singer and his band performing amid stark urban locations and psychedelic backdrops. The video layers the driving footage with clips from vintage horror and science-fiction films, including Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and The Phantom Creeps. Dancing devils, sinister clowns, old-fashioned family footage, and nuclear explosions turn the performance into a fast-cut collage of campy menace, retro shock imagery, and comic-book excess.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The title refers to Grandpa Munster's coffin-shaped dragster from the 1960s television series The Munsters. The car featured in the video is not the original Dragula, however, but the Munster Koach associated with Herman Munster.
  • Zombie intended to use the actual Dragula, but the known surviving examples were unavailable. One was reportedly stuck in customs in Hong Kong, while another was displayed at a casino in Atlantic City. Building a replica would have delayed the video and cost roughly $200,000.
  • The video incorporates footage from the 1939 serial The Phantom Creeps, including its giant robot. Its mixture of old horror clips, stock imagery, and colorful theatrical sets became a visual shorthand for Zombie's broader affection for exploitation cinema.
  • "Dragula" was released as part of Hellbilly Deluxe, Zombie's first solo album after White Zombie. The song and video helped establish the horror-themed visual identity that would continue through his music and later filmmaking career.

Lyrics

As they slowly turn, conquering the worm
Dig through the ditches, Burn through the witches, I slam in the back of my
Dragula
Dig through the ditches, Burn through the witches, I slam in the back of my
Dragula
Dead I am the pool, spreading from the fool
Weak anmd want you need, nowhere as you bleed
Dead I am the rat, feast upon the cat
Tender is the fur, dying as you purr
Dig through the ditches, Burn through the witches, I slam in the Back of my
