Synopsis

A teenage boy wakes to shut off his alarm, but accidentally switches on his stereo instead. As Quiet Riot's "Cum On Feel the Noize" blasts through the room, the equipment grows to absurd proportions, the walls shake, and the boy struggles to control the volume. A flashback connects him with the band's iconic Metal Health mask, suggesting he picked it up at a concert. After the oversized plug knocks him unconscious, he wakes to discover the chaos was only a dream.

Factoids & Trivia

• Quiet Riot's recording was a cover of Slade's 1973 hit. The song became the band's breakthrough single and reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1983.

• The video's exaggerated stereo and shaking bedroom turn the song's concert-sized energy into a teenage fantasy. Its simple nightmare structure helped make the clip immediately recognizable during the early MTV era.

• The Metal Health mask links the boy's bedroom dream to the band's breakthrough album, whose title track and "Cum On Feel the Noize" helped push Metal Health to No. 1 in the United States.

• Lead vocalist Kevin DuBrow initially opposed recording the song because he wanted Quiet Riot to rely on original material and was not a major Slade fan. The band reportedly approached the cover as something they could perform badly enough to have rejected.

• The cover was suggested by producer Spencer Proffer, who considered it a strong commercial choice. Its success helped bring wider attention to the Los Angeles metal scene and contributed to the later revival of interest in Slade in the United States.

• MTV played the video heavily, making it an important part of Quiet Riot's rapid rise from a Los Angeles club band to a mainstream heavy metal act.
