Synopsis

In a dark, candle-filled room, The Police perform "Wrapped Around Your Finger" as Sting moves through a maze of tall candles. The dreamlike imagery mirrors the song's themes of power, control, and shifting authority. The band appears in atmospheric close-ups while Sting navigates the glowing labyrinth, creating a hypnotic sense of ritual and uncertainty. As the performance reaches its climax, he moves through the arrangement with increasing urgency and knocks the candles down, turning the carefully ordered scene into a moment of destruction.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was filmed on the Charlie Chaplin soundstage at A&M's Los Angeles headquarters, a studio space with roots in early Hollywood filmmaking.
  • Its floating, slowed-down appearance was created by shooting at roughly twice the normal frame rate while playing the song back at double speed. The finished footage therefore moves in slow motion while Sting's lip-sync remains synchronized.
  • The production was shot on 16mm film. The high shooting speed required substantially more light, which was supplemented overhead despite the large number of candles on the set.
  • After a long shooting day, Sting wanted to pay for additional work himself. The producers declined, but agreed to one more take. That final handheld take captured him knocking over the candles and became the version used in the video.
  • "Wrapped Around Your Finger" appeared on 1983's *Synchronicity*, serving as the second UK single and the fourth US single from the album.
