Synopsis

Duffy leaves Warwick Avenue Tube station and settles into the back of a black taxi. As the cab moves through London, she sings directly to the camera about ending a painful relationship and asking an ex-lover not to follow her. The performance grows increasingly raw as tears run down her face and her makeup begins to smudge. The video remains focused on her changing expression, ending with Duffy still in the cab, quietly wiping away her tears.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was originally planned as a much larger production with dancers and special effects. The emotional taxi footage changed that approach, and the simpler concept was retained because Duffy's tears felt more authentic than a staged performance.
  • Duffy said filming brought back memories of the breakup that had inspired the song. She became unexpectedly emotional while hearing the track during the shoot.
  • The video is built almost entirely around one continuous-feeling close-up, making Duffy's face and voice the main visual effects.
  • Its stripped-back presentation contrasted with the more choreographed, ensemble-driven style of many contemporary pop videos.
  • The video premiered in the United Kingdom on April 23, 2008.
  • It received a nomination for Best UK Video at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, where it lost to the Ting Tings' "Shut Up and Let Me Go."
