Synopsis

A hopeful fan follows a "Rock Superstar" ticket into a bizarre heavy-metal fun house. Inside, he is groomed for fame, confronted by record-business figures, and shown a televised appearance by Everlast. The fantasy turns increasingly chaotic as he reaches Cypress Hill's fiery concert performance, where the group plays with the exaggerated spectacle of a rock band. When the experience becomes too much, he flees the attraction as it explodes behind him, leaving the promise of stardom in ruins.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was designed as a visual companion to "(Rap) Superstar," using a similar outsider's journey while shifting the setting toward rock and heavy-metal imagery.
  • Its fun-house setting turns the song's warnings about fame, money, and distrust into a literal entertainment-industry nightmare.
  • Everlast appears in the video, reinforcing the track's bridge between hip-hop and alternative rock audiences.
  • Nadja Peulen, known at the time as Coal Chamber's bassist, appears as the bass player during Cypress Hill's staged rock performance.
  • "(Rock) Superstar" came from the 2000 album "Skull & Bones," which divided its material between rap and rock-oriented approaches.
  • The song later gained additional exposure through the 2001 film "Training Day" and the video game "MTV Sports: Skateboarding Featuring Andy Macdonald."
